"I'm just trying to make a dollar!" - Street Photography

For this project, I just wanted to take pictures of people who make their living by working on the street everyday. I tried to capture a variety of ways that people earn a living on the street, and by doing this assignment, I learned that I'm not very comfortable taking pictures of random people that I don't know. For one, you tend to get evil looks from them. Overall, I think my subjects tend to be more interesting than the actual composition of my photos here, but I like them none the less.

  1. The last picture is my favourite by far because of the movement I can imagine from his swaying hips, ha. I really like the theme of street performers/merchants and how you capture them in there 'working' environment. The jazz man is really a captivating picture and brings the experience to life through his motions. Great picture!

  2. I also enjoy the last picture mostly because of the plain background. The buildings lines bring the attention right back to the singer. The contrast between the black and the light colored building also makes it pop. The guy picked a good spot on the wall to grab attention for himself.

  3. Your picture of the busker caught my attention right away. I think that for these types of candid shots , the most important thing is timing. The man is looking right at the camera and I think that's an important element here. You can tell right away that this man is obviously a street performer, but his bizarre pose really grabs your eye and makes you wonder what it was that he was actually doing at that instant. Also, I'm not sure if it was deliberate but the unplugged neon star in the upper left adds something to the picture as well.

  4. I really like what you decided to photograph for this assignment. I like that each picture shows a person at work. My favorite image is the second one of the guy selling papers. I like how it is dreary outside, yet the man is still outside doing his job. I think the brightness of the background makes the foreground stand out more, which draws your attention to the front of the image.

  5. I like the whole idea of your photographs. I like that you chose all different career choices that do take place everyday on the street. The composition of the second and fourth one are great, I like that the poeple in the picture are the main focus and really clear, like they consented to you taking pictures of them. I would like the first and third a whole lot more if you were able to get a little closer and make the subjects in the photograph more of the focal point. Also, I think the distance in both shows when I enlarged the picture, it was a lot less sharp. I think just a few different angles and less distance would make these photos stellar!

  6. I love the idea of your photos, it's like the bits of flare on a gray city street, everything that makes walking down the street in the city visually engaging. i especially love the last picture mainly because his outfit and guitar are all so funky and different they create such a contrast and make me think of dancing and movement which is so opposite of the cold, flat, hard lines of the walls and sidewalk.

  7. I like the story your pics are telling. Everyone finds their way to make that dollar...lol...my fav is the last one, the composition is good, if you zoomed in more i think it would have framed the man and his instrument better
